Volunteer gift: New t-shirts for 28 children in Wachimak!

From now on, the trip from Tena to Wachimak will always be via Cruz Chicta, as there are sometimes no boats from Comuna Los Ríos.

Nancy Martinez and Thomas Gray stayed in Wachimak in March, but they donated US$100 to the community, which was used to buy t-shirts for 28 children of the community. We thank Nancy and Thomas for their contribution! Photos below.

The Water Project and Volunteers

The volunteer program is looking excellent for this summer. Two girls, both called Amy, are coming in July, which then will be replaced by Christopher from Germany, who them will be replaced my Emily and then Tonya in August. But we're still in dear need of volunteers from September!

Right now, there is construction work going on in Wachimak, but the Municipality of Tena has donated cement to fix up one of the classrooms. This is currently being worked on and we'd love to see some pictures of the work from current volunteers.

Summer school break starts 15th July, but meanwhile, volunteers can focus on other activities, such as agriculture, which is a great experience because the people of Wachimak still use old, organic and traditional farming methods. Volunteers can also use their personal skills, doing what they can in construction, art, music, sports or any other things they may be good at to keep the kids active and creative or help the community in it's development.

This year's project with volunteer funds has been decided, but it has been in the works since 2007, but due to lack of funds, it has not been accomplished - running water in the community. There is still some way to go, and we still need some more volunteer donations and volunteer placement fees to achieve this. You can help by donating money, or material. Here below is the shopping list given by the water administration in Tena, after invastigating the possibility of setting up a running water system in Wachimak:

New Volunteers!

Robert from New Zealand arrived in Tena and will be volunteering for the next 2 weeks, until 6th May. Then comes a girl, Rachel, almost right after him. It will be interesting to see this project develop through time, as our new website looks like it's been a success!
